"Thank you for being there all these years !! We don't forget ! You got our six - we got yours, Carl." -Zoltan Bathory, guitarist for Five Finger Death Punch
Back in mid 2007 I was hosting a Sunday night heavy metal radio show called The Edge when I got a single from this band that clearly made no bones about being Tarantino fans with their band name.
The song was "Way of the Fist" and it was thrashy, angry and technically exciting. When their singer Ivan Moody commands: Zotlan, open the sky! into that nasty solo I was sold. I loved every second. I played it that week and onward for months.
Shortly after I also starting playing the brutal ballad and second cut The Bleeding. It was a monster request.
From that point on I've supported this band through every album, every song and every tour. Ive hung out with them backstage and I've interviewed them countless times. I've written features and reviews about them in magazines and websites. They are truly class acts from all my experience and great guys too.
They get shit for being popular now and they have their haters but I've loved this band since day 1. And they were THE MOST requested band on KFLY hands down across the board.
It's an honor to have been a part of this band's success and to receive this after losing my gig at KFLY and hearing what it became...well this is redemption in some small way and a reminder of what matters most: loyalty and perseverance.
Aside from the business end, on a personal note, Five Finger Death Punch got me through some shit!
So congratulations to them and thanks for letting me tag along for the ride. It was an honor to bring your thunder to the masses for all those years.
See you guys in September and I can't wait to hear the new record.
Huge Thanks to Prospect Park, especially Jackie Kajzer and anyone else who was a part of this.
